A deep jobs market and established multicultural communities for skilled migrants
Why migrate to Sydney
Sydney is Australia's largest city and its largest labour market, with strong, ongoing demand for skilled workers across health, technology, construction, finance and professional services. Employment is spread across the city, from the CBD and North Sydney to Macquarie Park, Parramatta and Western Sydney, so there are career options in every region. Explore jobs and industries →.
Alongside the careers, newcomers find beaches and national parks, a wide choice of public, independent and Catholic schools, and established multicultural communities across the city. Trains, metro, buses, ferries and light rail link the regions, which makes it practical to live in one part of Sydney and work in another.

Migration pathways
Sydney’s diverse economy supports opportunities across a wide range of skilled occupation lists. High-demand roles include healthcare professionals, engineers, IT and cyber security specialists, construction managers, educators, finance professionals, and business analysts. The scale and breadth of Sydney’s labour market allow skilled migrants to secure roles aligned with their qualifications and international experience.
State-nominated migration opportunities
Greater Sydney isn't a designated regional area, so the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) isn't available to people living and working here. NSW does nominate skilled workers for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190), a permanent visa, with nominations depending on occupation and the state's annual allocation. Employer-sponsored visas, such as the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482), are a separate route
Professional migration assistance
A registered migration agent or immigration lawyer can help with visa selection, skills assessments, employer sponsorship, family visas and meeting Australian immigration requirements. Migration advice should come from an agent registered with the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (OMARA) or a legal practitioner, so check a provider's registration before you engage them, and look for experience in your visa category.
