About the role

This role is pivotal to the organisation.  Reporting to an impressive and friendly Group Manager Legal, you will be responsible for autonomously managing and driving the resolution of a range of disputes including commercial disputes, insurance claims and debt recovery matters. In addition to being the dedicated lawyer responsible for managing all disputes, the successful candidate will also be involved in broader commercial legal work as part of a lean legal team. The ideal candidate will have sound commercial skills and grounding and the ability to strategically drive disputes (small to large) to a commercial conclusion quickly and provide easily understood advice to the business.

The key responsibilities of the role will include:

• Acting as the primary legal manager for managing and resolving all commercial disputes including complex, high-profile disputes, debt recovery, insurance claims and personal injury matters
• Drive dispute strategy from end to end
• Brief and manage relationships with insurers and external law firms
• Drafting and reviewing commercial contracts including supplier contracts, procurement, IT, marketing and supplier contracts

About you:

• You will be a lawyer with at least 5 years’ experience
• Strong background in commercial, construction or insurance litigation is required
• Some contractual background is highly desirable
• Preference for in-house/secondment experience in broad role
• You will be a confident and clear communicator who is able to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
• A commercially aware candidate with a pragmatic, practical approach and a good sense of humour is sought
